The Miracle Shop, a project of The Rotary Club of Golden, is an annual holiday event widely anticipated by financially struggling families. High quality donated toys are sold, at garage sale prices, to parents or guardians. Over five hundred excited children wake up on Christmas, Kwanza, Hanukkah to miracle gifts provided by loving adults who also receive the gift of a gleeful child and a reinforced sense of community and dignity.
Adopted in 1992 from Cusco, Peru, Ana Dodson returned to her birth country for the first time as an 11-year-old in 2003. Deeply moved by the poverty she witnessed, Ana decided to take action upon her return home to Colorado. At age 11, Ana founded Peruvian Hearts as a 501(c)(3) charitable nonprofit organization. They encourage social, economic, and political change in Peru through the
education and empowerment of young women. Their goal is to end poverty and gender inequality by educating young women and creating community leaders in Peru—one girl at a time.
COLORADO FOURTEENERS INITIATIVE
Colorado Fourteeners Initiative protects and preserves the natural integrity of Colorado’s 54 14,000–foot peaks —the “Fourteeners”— through active stewardship and public education. CFI partners with the US Forest Service, the Bureau of Land Management, and passionate volunteers and donors nationwide to:
Create a structure for engaging local communities in the protection of Colorado’s highest peaks
Build and maintain sustainable hiking routes on Colorado’s 14ers to accommodate hiking use while minimizing damage to native alpine ecosystems
Close, stabilize, and restore trampled and eroded areas to protect sensitive alpine plant and animal communities
Educate Fourteener hikers about Leave No Trace principles and sustainable recreational practices designed to lessen ecosystem impacts
Through this unique, voluntary partnership, Colorado’s 14er ecosystems are protected from harm while continuing to make the peaks accessible to hikers without burdensome restrictions and fees.
